Our Boran Cattle Story
Sometimes, the best things in life happen by chance. Our journey with the Boran started in just that way. Back when we were city dwellers, we attended a cattle show. Among all the livestock on display, one breed caught our attention – the Boran. We’d never seen anything quite like them, but little did we know how much they’d eventually become a part of our lives.
Four years later, after buying our own land, we started diving into soil health and farming practices. We’d learned that ruminants are some of the best partners for improving soil. And as we thought about what kind of cattle we wanted to work with, our African roots tugged at our hearts. We knew we wanted an African breed – something unique, resilient, and deeply connected to where we came from. That’s when the memory of the Boran resurfaced.
Finding them wasn’t easy, but as luck would have it, a breeder was just 5 kilometres away. It felt meant to be. Before long, we brought home our first two Boran cows and a calf.
That was the beginning of what has become a deep love and appreciation for this incredible breed. As we learned more, we discovered how rare Borans are in Australia – there are only a few pure and full-blood animals in the country. That realisation sparked something in us. These cattle, with their calm natures, fascinating personalities, and unmatched qualities, deserve to be preserved and shared with future generations here.
We’re now passionate about promoting Borans in Australia, not just as a heritage breed but as a game-changer for crossbreeding. They bring so much to the table – hybrid vigour, improved meat quality, and adaptability.
We’re still at the start of this journey, but every day we’re more excited about what’s ahead. Our herd is growing, and so is our vision for how Borans can flourish and make their mark on Australian farming.
